Apple Cider Syrup
We made this amazing homemade Apple Cider Syrup to use in a few cocktails, like our Apple Cider Old Fashioned. We LOVE Apple Cider anything so this recipe intensifies the flavor and makes it even more appley! It’s a great sub for just plain simple syrup, and brings fall into it so well. Lemonade? Iced Tea? Cocktails? Sangria? Yep, these are great ways to use our Apple Cider Simple Syrup!
Either way, pair your drink of choice with another apple cider delight, our boozy Apple Creme Brulees!
Apple Cider Simple Syrup
Plain sugar simple syrup is made combining equal parts water and sugar. It’s a key ingredient for sweetening drinks so that you don’t end up with grainy sugar at the bottom, or in your cocktail shaker. To make this Apple Cider Syrup, we combined fresh apple Cider and brown sugar, regular granulated sugar works just as well. Try a sugar free syrup, too!
But, the sugar is not equal parts because the cider already has plenty of natural sugar. So, it’s much less than the plain simple syrup. We used 1 cup cider and 1 teaspoon sugar, because too sweet isn’t pleasant either. Just bring to a boil on the stove top over medium heat in a saucepan. Let cool to room temperature and store in the fridge in a jar for up to 2 weeks.
Try other syrups like mint, basil, sage, rosemary or Lavender.
This apple cider syrup became a lovely golden syrup that we hope you make soon! And, if you just want some delicious apple cider cocktails try our Eye Candy Apple Cider cocktail and our Hot Buttered Bourbon and Cider Cocktail!
Try some other syrups like Watermelon Syrup, Strawberry Simple syrup and Homemade Pine Syrup!
Tips & Tricks
- Sweetener – we suggest above that you can use granulated sugar instead of brown sugar, but honey or coconut sugar work too.
- Spiced – if you want to kick this homemade syrup up even more, add some spices to the saucepan when boiling. Add some allspice berries, cinnamon sticks, star anise to the cider. Or, use a spice bag to add in the ingredients to this flavorful syrup. A pinch of salt can help sweetness level too.
Cheers!
