An Apple Cider Old Fashioned is a perfect fall cocktail. A great cold weather cocktail with a cider house twist, this fall version of the classic has apple cider syrup as the star of the show!

It is no secret the way to our hearts is a good Old Fashioned (seen here and here), but sometimes you have to spice things up to keep your love alive after you have had so many.

What we affectionately call a fruit salad, (when you muddle fruit in your glass), doesn’t belong in an Old Fashioned, just whiskey, bitters, sugar and a citrus peel garnish. Of course, there are so many variations to make, (I mean, look here!) but adding flavored syrups or infusions into the mix really adds some wonderful tastes, especially for the season we are in!

Right now, we are all about apple-y drinks. We love hard cider, warm apple cider, apple infused gin and tonic, and this Apple Cider Old Fashioned. We will stay cozy and apple-y all through even the winter!

Apple Cider Syrup

To give this Apple Cider Old Fashioned a fall twist, we made real apple cider into a simple syrup.  It’s the perfect sipping drink on a crisp fall day, and a great way to ring in a fall weekend. We didn’t add much sugar at all (about a teaspoon only) because our cider was so sweet, but we wanted it to thicken up.

If your cider isn’t as sweet, feel free to add a bit more sugar, but we wouldn’t go overboard, as it a sweet add to the Old Fashioned for sure.

Also, apparently people have been making apple cider syrup, (apple cider molasses), for a really long time. It’s cider that’s been reduced down to a concentrated and delicious viscous syrup. Which is what we made!

But, we are so glad that we made it, because this syrup is a fall cocktail game changer! You will want it just for fall treats in general, soooo delish!

So, make this simple fall cocktail that is full of flavor and perfect for autumn sipping!
