While our version of Polyjuice Potion might not make you transform into your arch nemesis, but it might transform your party into something a bit more magical! Fizzy and foamy, with a sweet tart citrus burst and with aromatic bitters, our Polyjuice Poition can be made for both adults and kids!

Polyjuice Potion - a Vodka Punch

Any good Halloween party has to have a good drink, and our take on Polyjuice Potion fits the bill, as it basically is an individual sized party punch! We started out by putting scoops of lime sherbet into a mug, then added a generous dose of vodka. To add a little complexity to the drink, we added in a few dashes of aromatic bitters.

The bitters adds a dark complex layer of spices and herbs which helps round out the tart brightness of the lime sherbet and lemon lime soda.

Polyjuice Potion - a Vodka Punch

A party punch has to have a little bubbly component, so we topped the drink with a big splash of lemon lime soda. The sherbet reacts with the bubbles in the soda, resulting in a delicious foam similar to a float. The interaction of the bubbles also helps mix the drink, which disperses the bright green color of the lime sherbet, making the drink definitely look like a magic potion.

Polyjuice Potion - a Vodka Punch

Since we wanted this to work for a party, we had to make the drink look and sound really magical, so added a few pea sized chunks of dry ice after we added the lemon lime soda. The dry ice makes the drink bubble, smoke and gurgle after we stirred the dry ice into the drink. This really adds a cool look and sound to the drink, and makes the top get extra foamy.

Just make sure to let your guests know that just like the Polyjuice Potion in the Harry Potter books, you need to wait for the drink to stop gurgling before you can drink it!

Polyjuice Potion - a Vodka Punch

This is also a great drink for scaling up to a punch bowl, allowing your guests to serve themselves. Wanting a great party drink for kids or guests who don’t wish to drink alcohol? Just skip the vodka and bitters, and this is a great kids version!

  1. I LOVE everything about this drink. I get so caught up in fun themed stuff for the kids I never even think about the grown ups. I can’t wait to try this one out. Could I use a photo and link to your blog in my fall round up?? I don’t do my own recipes but I am starting to share ones I love with my audience. It would simply be your hero image (pinnable version) and a link. I won’t give anything away 😉 Let me know

  2. How much dry ice per drink is used. Never used dry ice, but, do know where to get it. What is a Bitter, and where would one go to buy some?

    1. We used very small chips, such as the size of a 1/8 of a teaspoon. Bitters are available at any liquor store, and look for the Angostura brand, as it is sold most everywhere. Cheers!

    1. Hi Juliana! We just used our local store brand’s lime sherbet. Most of them are very close in flavor. We used Shasta for the soda, but I think Sprite would work well, too! Cheers, and hope you enjoy!
