Blue Curacao is a beautiful blue liqueur that makes colorful drinks. Read all about it in our What is Blue Curacao post!
Blue Curacao has a citrus flavor that makes it refreshing. Nope, it does not taste like blue raspberry or berry. It is colored for fun to use in tropical cocktails. We go more into the history of it in our Blue Lagoon and Blue Hawaii cocktail recipes, as well as a post all about What is Blue Curacao, too!
Is Blue Curacao the same as Triple Sec?
In short Curacao is more frequently pot distilled with brandy, cognac or a sugar cane spirit and has a sweeter flavor. And can be blue. Triple sec is most often column distilled with a neutral grain spirit and is drier.
Tropical Getaway Cocktail
This combo of coconut rum and Blue Curacao can definitely be served all year long due to its refreshing flavor, but the blue color makes for a great presentation on a chilly day when you are dreaming of tropical islands and far off places!
The recipe for this tiki party crowd pleaser (and I do mean a crowd, just multiply the ingredients by your guests!) is an easy one. You can make this per person, or one enormous vessel for all, like a punch bowl. In this case we multiplied the ingredients by 2 and then put it in a huge glass to make it even more fun.
Tiki drinks are a lot of times a fruity rum punch that may be served in a special punch bowl (usually a scorpion bowl) but since we don’t have one, we improvised, and made it a fun big cocktail!
Light and fruity cocktails are definitely our favorites, and this one is no different! Put us at a bar in a tropical location and we will probably like every drink they put in front of us– it’s all yummy! Especially with fresh fruit juice and rum!
Blue Curacao Cocktail
In this case we combined coconut rum, Blue Curacao, sour mix and ginger beer for this tasty sip. Then we added some tiki bitters, because we love bitters yes, but also because it gave a bit of depth to the tropical flavors.
The coconut, orange, sour mix (lemon and lime) and the bite of the ginger make this a great tropical sip, so make it asap!
As if we needed an excuse to drink anything out of a fun glass, this refreshing and fruity tropical drink is perfect for your next summer get together (tiki theme or not)!
Cheers!

Notes
If you are wanting to make this for a party, or in a punch bowl, just multiply the ingredients by the number of people. As an example - if you have 4 people you would need
9 oz Coconut Rum
3 oz Blue Curacao

12 oz ginger beer
8 dashes tiki bitters
Combine in a punch bowl. And if you don't want it to get watered down, don't add ice until you are ready to serve in a glass.
