We started the idea of these Midnight Margaritas inspired by the movie Practical Magic! This 1998 movie was a favorite movie from my high school and college years. Starring Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, and Dianne West in the pivotal roles, these Midnight Margaritas have a small scene, but with a fun song and dance involved!

With this in mind, (and the “spell” they used to make the margaritas, i.e. eye of newt and salt over the shoulder) we wanted a fun floral margarita with a great color for Halloween!

For a fun purple or gray color, we used some Creme de Violet for violet flavor as well as some lavender simple syrup for more floral. The lavender and violet play off of each other really well and give a fun color to the cocktail.

We used both lemon and lime juice as that makes for a more rounded margarita (in our opinion!) Try a Cynar Negroni, Zombie Blood Bags, Scotch Halloween Cocktail, or our Nightmare on Whisky Street cocktails for Halloween!

Tips & Tricks

  • Garnish – a lime wedge or lime wheel (or lemon) is perfect in this. But, if you are serving for Halloween, a fun Halloween straw or stir stick makes a great touch.
  • Glassware – we used a metal highball for this recipe, but a tumbler or large rocks glass will work just as well.
