An Orange Cinnamon Simple Syrup is a great way to add some fall and spiced flavor to fall and winter cocktails. Easy to make, this spiced syrup is a must make!

We came up with this Orange Cinnamon Simple Syrup when working on our Fall Sidecar Cocktail Recipe. We added the syrup to the cognac based recipe and felt the flavorful syrup was a great touch. The whole cinnamon sticks added a cozy fall feel to the flavorful syrup. Try some Lemon Simple Syrup, Spiced Honey Syrup, or Apple Cider Syrup, too!

Orange Cinnamon Syrup

This syrup is easy to make. If you know how to make a basic simple syrup (i.e. sugar and water), you just change up the ingredients slightly for this one. This orange syrup recipe starts off in a small saucepan over medium heat with some fresh orange juice and a cup of white sugar.

Bring the mixture to a boil and the sugar dissolves. Turn heat down to a low simmer and add whole cinnamon sticks for about 3 minutes. Take off of heat and let cool to room temperature. Strain syrup with a fine-mesh strainer into a jar or measuring cup.

Store in the fridge for up to two weeks in an airtight container. Try this with our Pear Syrup and Spiced Cranberry Simple Syrup.

Tips & Tricks

  • Sweetener – we used regular granulated sugar, but feel free to use turbinad0, brown sugar or even Stevia.
  • Spices – if you want to amp up this spiced simple syrup, feel free to add some different spices like star anise, whole cloves or allspice. You can even add some orange zest from a small orange to the mixture.
  • Orange Juice – fresh navel oranges are the best choice for this, especially if you are squeezing your own orange juice. Bottled is fine, too. Pulp is fine, as you will be straining the syrup.
  • Other Uses – you can feel free to use this in other recipes, it would make a great Old Fashioned, a sweetener for fall sangria or zero proof cocktails, too! Add it to pancakes or French toast, top oatmeal with it or ice cream!
