After a long cold winter here in Nebraska we start looking for some warm destination to escape off to! One place we have escaped off to for spring break has been to Las Vegas, where it definitely is warmer! As people who love good food and drink, the concentration of amazing restaurants and bars makes for some fun filled culinary adventures! One thing that we also enjoy doing is sitting by the pools enjoying a good drink, sipping on a nice cool and refreshing cocktails while sitting in the warm desert sun! One such drink might just be our Strawberry Limeade Gin and Tonic!
Speaking of Vegas, the 2017 “For The Love Of Cocktails” event is coming to Las Vegas this spring. Vegas.com informed us of this event and we thought we would share this cocktail with you! This is a 72-hour fundraiser for breast cancer awareness that brings together the finest mixology enthusiasts for an epic 3 days of parties and events, showcasing some of the best craft cocktails and mixologists Las Vegas has to offer.
Proceeds from this event supports the Helen David Bartender Relief Fund, an organization honoring a long time Michigan bar owner, Helen David, who amazingly beat breast cancer twice in her life. Her story inspired her cousin, Tony Abou-Ganim (aka the Modern Mixologist, the legendary bartender who set up many famous cocktail programs at restaurants in New York and San Fransisco before setting in Vegas where he helped establish the cocktail programs at places like the Bellagio and establishing the largest chapter of the US Bartender’s Guild.) who grew up watching Helen tend bar and work in the Michigan hospitality industry.
Mr. Abou-Ganim decided to start the Helen David Bartender Relief Fund, which provides bartenders in need with pre-cancer screenings. support, and improve the well being of service industry professionals. He started the For the Love of Cocktails event as a way to raise funds while celebrating the creative drive that makes mixologists push their craft forward to bring incredible cocktails to the consumer.
One bartender who we think you might find at this event (and if you don’t, we totally think they should find a way to make him be there!) is Craig Schoettler, who is the director of wine and spirits at Aria Las Vegas. Schoettler was the former executive chef at one of our favorite cocktail bars, The Aviary in Chicago, which might just be the one of the best bars in the world!
Since we personally know people that have been effected by breast cancer, supporting groups that help people fight this terrible disease is important to us! So we created a signature cocktail to help promote this event! We created the Strawberry Limeade Gin and Tonic as we feel it would fit right in among the cocktails in Vegas!
Refreshingly cool, tart and crisp, the Strawberry Limeade Gin and Tonic is a great drink for sipping on a warm day poolside! Full of tart limes and fresh sweet strawberries this cocktail not only is beautiful but it is also delicious! The combination of citrus and berry works really great with the gin, pulling out the botanicals of the gin and the complex flavors of the tonic. The fizzy tonic makes this cocktail very refreshing and perfect for sipping! The finishing touch is a strawberry infused ice cube, which adds strawberry flavor as it melts, changing the cocktail flavor continuously as you drink this cocktail!

- 2 oz Gin
- 1/4 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
- 1/2 oz strawberry simple syrup
- 4-5 oz Tonic water (we recommend Fever Tree)
- 1 strawberry sliced
- 1-2 lime wheels
- Juniper berries
- Strawberry Ice Cube
- 1 sliced strawberry
- Juniper berries
- Ice cube mold
- Place the Strawberry Ice Cube in a glass
- Add gin, strawberry, strawberry simple syrup, lime wheel, lime juice and juniper berries.
- Top with tonic.
- Fill ice cube mold with water.
- Add sliced strawberry and juniper berries.
