Mint simple syrup is one of our favorite flavored simple syrups to make as it is extremely versatile and one that brings a whole bunch of flavor! Cool and crisp tasting, mint simple syrup brings a delicious refreshing mint flavor to cocktails, drinks or frozen treats alike!

What Ingredients are Needed for the Mint Simple Syrup?

  • Mint
  • Sugar
  • Water

We are lucky enough to have our own little herb garden where we grow a whole bunch of fresh herbs that we use in cooking and drink making. One of the easiest herbs to grow is mint, as it does really well in a pot, making it perfect for use in the kitchen as you can keep a small pot handy! In fact, most gardeners tell you to grow mint in a pot because it tends to grow like wildfire and takes over your whole garden!

Making mint simple syrup is really quite easy. First you use equal parts water and white sugar and bring that to a boil. Once the sugar and water have boiled, remove from heat and add in the mint leaves. Allow the mint leaves to steep in the hot syrup until cool, then strain out the leaves!

The result is a clear syrup with a cool, fresh minty sweetness that avoids being overly artificially minty like some chewing gums or some creme de menthe.

Can Simple Syrups go bad?

They can get moldy if they sit too long. We encourage you to store it in the fridge in a Bormioli Rocco Swing Bottles but for no more than one to two weeks. We actually have a whole shelf of simple syrups in our fridge at any given time!

Cheers!

I have a big patch of fresh mint that's trying to take over my garden, so I'm constantly on the lookout for new things I can make with mint so that I can try to keep that patch under control. Loving the sound of that Pineapple Mojito that Rachel mentioned in her comment... sounds like my mint patch is getting a trim over the weekend! :)
