Make this easy Italian Cream Soda. With just a few simple ingredients, this fun retro beverage with a twist can be made many different ways!

This Italian Cream Soda, or French Soda is a lighter version than the original. We used coconut cream, sparkling water and sugar free simple syrup with lime juice for this tasty treat! This tropical combination will have you feeling warm, or cooling off all year long! Try a Maple Mocktail, too!

I really had not realized how simple it is to make an Italian Cream Soda. The recipe is basically club soda, simple syrup, and half and half for the classic version. In this case, we are deviating slightly and making a lower calorie and “better for you” version. But, the flavor combinations for these Italian Cream Sodas are absolutely endless.

We think they are delicious and festive drinks for any special occasion! But, if you are doing Dryuary (not drinking in January) or need a non alcoholic cocktail for any reason, this is a tasty one all year long!

What’s the difference between French soda and Italian Cream Soda?

French soda and Italian soda are basically the same thing.  Italian soda is sparkling water with flavored syrup while French soda (can also be called Italian cream soda) is the same, but with the addition of half-and-half or cream.

Is Italian soda from Italy?

No, Italian soda is from the United States. The combo of sparkling water and flavored syrup made by an Italian company that did well, so that’s where the “Italian” name came.

Italian Cream Sodas are a fancy treat that I got as a kid at restaurants. Now we can just make them at home because they are so easy to make!

This is a very basic recipe (it’s vegan!) for this Coconut Lime Italian Cream Soda! You can personalize by changing up the syrup/fruit juice flavors, too! Mix and match full sugar syrups as well as sugar free, as we used!

What is Coconut Cream?

Coconut cream usually comes in cans in the canned goods aisle. If you can’t find it, you can refrigerate full fat coconut milk and scoop the layer of coconut cream off the top. It is much thicker and richer in my opinion.

Coconut Cream is made from cooking four parts shredded coconut to one part water. But, the cream that rises to the top of a can of coconut milk is also considered coconut cream. As we said before, you can refrigerate that and scoop it out!

What is the difference between canned coconut milk and canned coconut cream?

The main difference between canned coconut milk and the stuff you buy in a carton is the amount of water present. Boxed coconut milk is much more diluted than what is in the can.

You can also try changing up the lime juice with another favorite juice like pineapple, orange, or lemon. Then add the coordinating sparkling water!
