Great options for Healdsburg, California Hotels and Restaurants

Healdsburg boasts farmers’ markets, farm to table restaurants and cool cafés, so you will always be able to find something tasty to eat! Expect plenty of tasting rooms that are open, but reservations are encouraged, as it is a small town. Weekend lunch times are popular with visitors from San Francisco.

The tasting room at Silver Oak Alexander Valley surrounded the beautiful scenery of Sonoma County.

Healdsburg Plaza is a great place for people watching with your cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Many tasting rooms are around the plaza, and around town, so enjoy the time you can spend outside while day drinking! But, a lot of the wineries to go tasting at are located out of town, so keep that in mind  – some of the best we have found are on Dry Creek Road and Westside Road.

We stayed on a winery, Thomas George a few years ago, so make sure to read about our stay and wine safari on the property! Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley and Dry Creek Valley are located nearby, too! There are a lot of vacation rentals around the area as well, so check out VRBO or Airbnb!

Many of the best stays at a Healdsburg, California hotel are smaller inns or B&B’s, but there are some modern and swanky hotels, too! There are also romantic spaces for couples with an outdoor pool, private balconies, full breakfasts, room service and more all within easy access within the charming historical town of Healdsburg.

Healdsburg being located at the northern end of Sonoma Valley, it’s easy to drive east over to Napa and try some of those vineyards, too! And it’s easy to head south to Sonoma, too, so make sure to stop in at Gloria Ferrer Vineyard!

Make sure to eat at The Matheson Restaurant in Healdsburg, too!

Tips & Tricks
  • Driver – to have the most safe wine tasting experience at nearby vineyards, we recommend a driver. There are drivers that have cars, vans and even busses to take you and you group where you need and want to go. But, we have found the best way to do it is to have a driver of our own rental car. We used Simply Driven for this, and have many times.
  • Location – location is important to where you stay in wine country, and if you want a walkable stay, we suggest Healdsburg hotels near the historic town plaza. Some of these would be Healdsburg Inn, Hotel Healdsburg, Hotel Les Mars, and Harmon Guest House. These locations also put you close to the best restaurants in town like Oakville Grocery, Duke’s Spirited Cocktails, the Matheson, Dry Creek Kitchen, and Barn Diva. Remember most parking in the heart of northern Sonoma wine country is free parking and not paid.
  • Tasting Rooms – There are tasting rooms right on the square in the heart of downtown Healdsburg. These local wineries include Williamson Wines, idlewild wines, thumbprint cellars, LIOCO wine and tasting room, Murphy-Goode, Alexander Valley Wine, Hartford Family Winery, and more!
  • Healdsburg Tips – other ideas around town are Seghesio Family Vineyards, the Healdsburg Museum, a roof top bar at The Rooftop or Roof 106, casual restaurants like The Wurst, Bravas Bar de Tapas or Willi’s Seafood and Raw Bar.

When you’re ready to book your visit to Sonoma Valley, here are some of the best places to stay in Healdsburg! And then check out some Napa Valley wine tastings, too! Or, if you are headed north, stop in at Humboldt Bay Social Club or Humboldt Distillery.
