Nice and boozy, this classic cocktail, The Last Word, makes the most of the flavors of Chartreuse and Luxardo! Cheers!
Recently we bought a bottle of Chartreuse, a herbal liqueur distilled by Carthusian Monks of France that contains 130 herbs plants and flowers. I had been seeing a number of amazing looking and sounding cocktails on various sites that all used Chartreuse, so being intrigued I set out to find a drink that would be appropriate to use this very unique liqueur.
The Last Word Cocktail Recipe
One recipe for Chartreuse Liquor that kept popping up was a cocktail named The Last Word. Invented in the Detroit Athletic Club during Prohibition, this Chartreuse cocktail is a classic drink that has regained popularity with the resurgence of speakeasy bars. Because it is a classic cocktail, we couldn’t wait to make one!

What Does the Last Word Cocktail Taste Like?
The recipe combines equal parts the bright crispness of gin, the herbaceous bite of the Chartreuse, sweet maraschino liqueur, and the citrus burst from a lime. This cocktail starts out fragrantly herbaceous and slightly sour, but finishes with a bright sweetness that is quite refreshing. We also like the Chartreuse in one of our other cocktails, the Champs Elysees, cheers!

This is one of my FAVORITE drinks (and I don't drink gin!) As a warning to those who are considering making this delicious libation—it catches up to you quickly and makes you act a fool. The key is moderation. ;)
