The Grinch Cocktail
As you can imagine, “The Grinch” is inspired by Dr. Seuss’s classic character, can be a popular name for green cocktails around the holidays. Most often we see it made with Midori. We don’t use Midori very often, but wanted to do something different to make the same green color of the Midori cocktails.
Among the drink recipes that have taken the name, we kept it simple with this green mimosa. There are many choices and tastes, but we wanted it to be simple and easy for entertaining. Make sure to have fun and find a little Christmas cheer!
This just has sparkling wine in it, perfect for Christmas brunch or other Christmas celebrations. This is not a strong drink, so you can drink them all day long if you want to!
Why is the Grinch Cocktail Recipe Green?
This cocktail is green because of the mix of orange juice and blue wine. The combo creates this beautiful bright green color. This green mimosa is an easy, no-fuss Christmas cocktail perfect for your next party! We think even your crankiest of guests will love it!
The cherry (we added 2, 1 for each of us) on top represents the Grinch’s heart BEFORE it grew three sizes that day. In Grinch fashion, the drink is garnished with a cherry to represent the character’s heart.
Blue Wine
Belaire Bleu, a cuvée, is what we used as the blue component to make the drink green. This blue wine is a perfect mix of the old world and the new. Coming from France, the flavors are light and balanced, and goes really well with fresh orange juice.
The Belaire Bleu has aromas of fresh berries and tropical fruit. The flavors are citrus, peach, apricot, honeysuckle and has hints of brioche. It has a spectacular sapphire color, inspired by the beautiful waters of the Côte d’Azur, it is fun for dramatic cocktails as well! It is a blend of 45% Ugni Blanc and 55% Colombard grapes, and has a similar sweetness to a dry champagne.
The Belaire Bleu is 12.5% abv, and around $40. There are other blue wines and sparkling wines out there that you can use for this green mimosa, but this is the one we tried and liked, and it made a great green Grinch color, too!
