Orange Vanilla Simple Syrup
Start by combining sugar and orange juice, and in a saucepan. As it simmers gently, add in the orange zest. Once the sugar has dissolved and brought to a boil, cook down until reduced slightly, and the syrup sticks to the back of the spoon. Then, remove from the heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Vanilla adds flavor that balances the brightness of the orange, and makes the syrup taste a little like a creamsicle.
Let the syrup cool to room temperature before straining out the zest. Once strained, store in a jar or sealed bottle for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
