Come with us to Fox & Pearl Kansas City, a lovely restaurant in the historical Westside neighborhood. See what delicious items we ate and drank.
Walking into Fox & Pearl feels like stepping into a cozy modern but rustic building. There is exposed brick, wood beams, and warm lighting to make it inviting and for a special night out. It’s a space that works well for a special dinner or a casual evening with friends. Small plates and excellent service with an upscale menu, this is an award winning bistro.

Kansas City’s food scene is amazing, and we always love to try new places when we go to KC. Check out our meal at Corvino, and our weekend in Kansas City posts, too! We think Fox & Pearl is a must-visit spot for their Midwestern cuisine!
We recently spent an evening here, and from the first sip of a cocktail to the last bite of dessert, Fox & Pearl delivered on every level. Headed by chef Vaughn Good, Fox & Pearl offers a unique dining experience with a patio, basement (down spiral stairs) and tall ceilings in the main dining room.
Cocktails at Fox & Pearl
Before diving into food, we started where every good evening begins for us: cocktails. Fox & Pearl’s bar program is playful but with drinks that are as thoughtful as the food.
-
Glinda the Good – a great combo of bourbon, Campari, Oloroso sherry, pistachio orgeat, pineapple and lime. Refreshing and delightful.
-
Summer Breeze – tequila, italicus, jasmine tea syrup and orange bitters. It was clear and rich, and tasty sip!
Food at Fox & Pearl
One of the things that really worked this evening was how the cocktails and dishes complemented each other. The Taste of Liberation was bold enough to stand up to the steak for Jay. The combination of rum, Aperol, aloe liqueur, watermelon, lime and Thai chili was a tasty sip.
The Krampus Spritz worked to refresh the palate between richer bites of the braised lamb ravioli. The Spritz was cardamom cachaca, Cappelletti, Velvet Falernum, amaro, Peychaud’s and club soda.
Our meal was tasty from beginning to end:
-
Foie Gras Torchon with Bread – this was a rich appetizer, the bread doesn’t come with it. But, our server told us to get a side of bread, and we are so glad we did. It was a perfect vehicle to eat all the buttery foie gras. This had pickled peaches, peanut and chili granola and crispy chicken skin, too.
-
Grilled Denver Steak – the steak came out perfectly cooked to medium rare, and came with double roasted potatoes, pecan pesto, and charred tallow cipollinis.
-
Ravioli with Braised Lamb – this was a hearty yet elegant dish. The ravioli was accompanied with ricotta, leeks and a cured egg yolk.
-
Lemon & Berry Summer Cake – We finished the evening with some cake. The lemon and berry flavors together were the perfect finale.
Each dish felt rooted in Midwest tradition and re-imagined to be modern and balanced. They offer a seasonal menu, creative cocktail program and a fun environment, so make sure to add Fox & Pearl to your must visit list!
