This cocktail has a visually fun blue lagoon color, as well as being refreshing! Make this tropical Blue Lagoon cocktail recipe soon!

So the name of the Blue Lagoon makes it pretty self explanatory! It’s refreshing and blue. The cocktail turns 3 simple ingredients: vodka, blue curaçao and lemonade into a cocktail that you want to dive into!

The history of the Blue Lagoon cocktail recipe is that it was created by Andy MacElhone, the son of bartender Harry MacElhone, at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris in the 1960s or 70s.

Vodka makes a strong base in the drink, and blue curaçao, a liqueur made using the dried peel of the Laraha citrus fruit (see more info on our creepy Halloween cocktail!), makes the drink sweet and tropical orange flavored. The lemonade adds tart flavors and makes it sippable and not too sweet.

This cocktail is shaken and then strained over crushed ice. It has however, been blended to make a frozen cocktail, too, it’s just whatever texture you prefer. The shaken form is easier and faster, tho, so you can get your tropical vibes on sooner. Either way, this tropical cocktail is a great choice when it’s hot out, or a as a pool tipple!

Does Curaçao have alcohol in it?

Yes, curaçao has alcohol in it! There are some alcohol free versions with flavored syrups: Finest Call Blue Curaçao Cordial Syrup or Torani Blue Curaçao Syrup, so that you can make drinks for the kiddos too! Make sure to read our What is Blue Curacao post to learn all about this interesting boozy ingredient!

What Goes Well with Blue Curaçao?

It’s a good choice for tropical cocktails. Goes well with tropical fruit flavors – pineapple, orange, mango. You can use it in other ways – like we did for our Halloween cocktail, but most of the time it is used in tropical drinks!
