Grand Reopening – Bruegger’s Bagels West Omaha

We attended the grand reopening of Bruegger’s Bagels in west Omaha.

Every now and then you read a story in the newspaper that just makes you shake your head in wonder due to how crazy the story is. One of these types of stories happened back in September 2015 to Omaha’s West Center location of Bruegger’s Bagels when a man intentionally rammed his friend’s pickup into the kitchen.

 

With the kitchen completely wrecked, Bruegger’s closed the location and took the opportunity to completely update the location and roll out a number of new menu items. We were invited to attend their Media Preview and Omaha Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting event on April 18th, prior to their Grand Re-Opening on April 20th.

We were greeted by the very helpful and welcoming staff who were all very excited to share the changes to the restaurant and let us know about their new expanded menu. When the representatives of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce arrived, the crew gathered for a group picture and ribbon cutting event, and then got back to the business of baking great bagels.

 

The staff was using this event as a training event, so naturally we had the opportunity to order some menu items and give them a try while helping Bruegger’s staff train.

One of the biggest changes at Bruegger’s is the expanded espresso and coffee bar, which now features a number of classic espresso drinks like caffe lattes, Americanos, mocha lattes and straight espresso shots,  Bruegger’s Bagels also now offers Single bean pour overs as well as cold brew iced coffee.

 

We had the chance to try out a pour over and the cold brew coffee as well as a sample of the mocha latte. The pour over coffee was very rich and robust, the flavor bold, bright and very smooth and excellent for any coffee lover. The cold brew coffee was also good, smooth and not bitter, perfect for sipping on those coming warm summer days.

We decided to try out some items from all over the menu, so we started out with the Blue Apple Salad. Mrs. Nom is a big fan of salads, especially at any fast food locations as it gives a lighter option for those days when you are looking for something light and fresh. Both of us liked the Blue Apple Salad, which features grilled chicken and fresh mixed greens topped with toasted almonds, fresh sliced green apples and sweet dried cranberries and blue cheese crumbles.

 

A champagne vinaigrette finishes off the salad with a tart edge that complimented the blue cheese and the fresh greens. Both of us also really enjoyed the bagel bites that come with it, which were a nice reminder that we were at a good bagel place!

We also selected a classic bagel breakfast sandwich, the smoked salmon bagel sandwich. We love a good smoked salmon, and this breakfast sandwich was filled with slices of smoked salmon that had a rich flavor of cedar smoke and just the right amount of salt.

Tangy capers, cool fresh tomatoes and spicy sweet red onions and a generous helping of Bruegger’s plain cream cheese are encased in a delicious plain bagel. The bagel was soft and pillowy, with just the right amount of chewiness that a good bagel has to have. This would be a great sandwich for fans of smoked salmon for breakfast!

Our last selection came from the lunch menu and was highly recommended by a couple of members of the staff as their favorite sandwich, the Turkey Chipotle Club. This sandwich comes in Bruegger’s  5 Grain Everything Bagel with a hearty pile of sliced turkey and sweet peppered bacon in the middle.

 

Crisp arugula and a smokey chipotle mayo bring a fresh spicy creaminess that complimented the onion flakes and garlic of the Everything Bagel. This was a hearty delicious sandwich that really hit the spot for lunch!

While we were sampling our sandwiches, the staff was bringing around samples from their expanded desert menu. We had the chance to try a sample of their new chocolate peanut butter bar, which was really good, similar in flavor to that famous peanut butter cup but with a better crunch from the bar base.

 

Our other sample was a very nice lemon poppy seed muffin which we both enjoyed. The lemon flavor was just the right amount of sweet and tart with a great lemony aroma. A sweet lemon glaze topped the muffin and finished our meal with a great sweet treat!

Both of us really enjoyed getting a sneak peek of Bruegger’s Bagels freshest location at 132nd and West Center in Omaha.
