A grape version of the classic Moscow Mule! A Concord Grape Recipes Moscow Mule!

We recently were wandering around the Omaha Farmer’s Market when we ran across a beautiful bunch of concord grapes. Concord grapes recipe aren’t something we regularly see around here, but occasionally in late summer a few stands offer them, so we jumped on the chance to get some local concord grapes!

Grape Moscow Mule

Concord grapes are delicious, versatile grapes that are usually used in wines, juices and jellies, but we have found ways to use them in dishes and in cocktails! Our latest cocktail is a perfect one for the last days of summer, a Concord Grape Recipe Moscow Mule!

A fresh batch of concord grapes is a real treat, the sweet, juicy grapes bringing a good old fashioned grape flavor that is familiar, but when fresh deeper and more tart than the classic grape flavor we are used to. The concord grape is what is known as a slip skin grape, meaning when squeezed, the seed and the pulp will squeeze out, leaving the behind the dark skins.

The dark skins however aren’t just waste, they not only pass on a great tart edge but also a beautiful deep purple color that looks fantastic in a cocktail.

Crystallized Ginger / Ginger Beer

Grape is a seriously underused flavor in cocktails, with most folks associating the use of grapes in wine and spirits like pisco and brandy. Rarely however do you find the flavor of fresh grapes in a cocktail. We were snacking on these concord grapes when the inspiration hit that maybe these concord grape recipes of ours would be a perfect addition to a crisp tart cocktail like a Moscow Mule.

This is especially if we made a grape syrup that captured that grape flavor with out the mess of the skins and the pulp! If you don’t have fresh grapes, make a simple syrup out of Grape Jelly. Try our Grape Lemonade, too!

Our concord grape syrup was really simple, just water, sugar and some concord grapes! We just brought the mix to a boil which popped the grapes and released their sweet tart juice into the syrup. The resulting syrup was a sweet purple color with a rich flavor of the fresh concord grapes!
