A fantastic and easy cherry crostini appetizer for a party! If you need some cherry recipes, this is the one!

There is a saying that necessity is the mother of invention, so when Leah had to bring an appetizer to a mom’s night out event, this recipe was born! We have had a very busy week and hadn’t been to the grocery store in a while, so when she glanced in the refrigerator and found goat cheese and cherries (originally planned for our next batch of brandied cherries) she ended up coming with a twist on a classic Italian dish that uses strawberries and balsamic vinegar to make a sweet tangy cherry crostini.

Cherry Crostini

Using goat cheese, Balsamic Vinegar and cherry topping on a crusty toasted crostini, the tangy balsamic cherry crostini were a popular dish among Leah’s friends!

In Italy, they make a simple dessert that combines sweet strawberries, Balsamic Vinegar and fresh cracked black pepper on vanilla ice cream. Since we didn’t have strawberries in our kitchen, we went with another sweet fruit that we did have, fresh Bing cherries.

What Ingredients are Needed for this Cherry Recipes?

  • Olive Oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Lemon Juice
  • Brown Sugar
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Cherries
  • Baguette
  • Goat Cheese
  • Chives

The cherries weren’t as sweet as strawberries are, but since we wanted this as an appetizer and not a dessert, the tartness of the cherries worked really nice when combined with the tart creaminess of the goat cheese. The brown sugar balances out the tartness of the cherry recipes. It helps release the juices of the cherries, which makes for a great drizzle sauce.

We wanted something that would be good for eating as a finger food, and with the success of our cocktail crostini at previous cocktail party, we figured that another variation of crostini would fit the bill. The toasted, crunchy bread brings a crunchy savory texture the crostini and lets the bread avoid getting soggy from the cherry juice. Topping it with some chopped micro chives brings a savory edge that keeps the crostini from getting overly sweet which was perfect as an appetizer.

Cheers!
