Blatt Beer and Table West

A great gastropub located in both downtown and west Omaha, Blatt Beer and Table is a great place to visit.

One of the hottest and longest lasting trends in dining is the craft beer and burger gastropub, Blatt Beer and Table opened up in 2011. They were one of the first restaurants in North Downtown Omaha near TD Ameritrade Park, it became a popular destination for sports fans and concert goers.

Blatt Beer and Table

Fresh gourmet burgers and big beers in a modern pub with a big roof top patio and it was easy to see why Blatt became a major hit. We had tried Blatt a couple of times after baseball games, and found their burgers and limited game menus to be excellent and the beer and drink specials to be good. It was no surprise to find that Flagship Restaurant Group who also owns Blue Sushi, Roja and Plank, were opening second location in the Shoppes of Legacy out in west Omaha.

blatt-5With the new branch in our neck of the woods, we decided to stop in and give the new location a try. Blatt’s roots as a pub is very apparent when you enter, as the focal point of the dining area is the large U shaped bar. We went in on a weeknight and found the restaurant full. With open seating the rule of the house, we picked a table near the bar along the long banquette.

The space feels warm and pub like, with lots of brick and wood, while the large windows and steel accents gives it a modern feel. A replica of the famous sign from Rosenblatt Stadium and a shuffle board area adds to the pub feel. The space feels upbeat and full of energy, especially as the night goes on.

blatt-2What did we Order at Blatt?

We chose the Bavarian Pretzel bites to start, which were served with German Rosemary mustard, and Gruyere fondue dips. Baked in house, the pretzel bites were soft baked and savory with a nice saltiness that made us want more.  By themselves, the sauces felt a little flat, but combining the two made for a very nice dipping sauce.

We ordered drinks as well, with Mr Nom ordering the Twist and Stout, which was Maker’s Mark whisky, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, fresh ginger, clover honey, and a lemon twist.  Mrs Nom ordered the Pimm’s Cup – Pimm’s No 1 liqueur, lemonade, lemon lime soda, with a cucumber garnish. The Pimm’s cup is like a better version of an alcoholic Arnold Palmer, which was a real hit with both of us (in fact we went out the next day and bought some Pimm’s and replicated the drink at home!)

Other Omaha Restaurants we Recommend

For our entrees, Mr Nom got the BBQ Brick Chicken. The BBQ Brick Chicken is half of a smoked chicken with dill potato salad and creamy coleslaw for sides. The smoked chicken had a splash of spicy and sweet bbq sauce that brought out the smoky aroma of the chicken.

The chicken was nicely smoked, with a deep smoke ring and a nice crisped smoked skin. The dill potato salad and creamy coleslaw were good sides that helped cool the heat of the spicy bbq sauce. For a place who’s claim to fame isn’t BBQ,  Blatt’s BBQ Brick Chicken might be in the running for the best restaurant BBQ meal Mr. Nom has had in Omaha in a long time! (Make sure you check out the new patio at Blatt Beer and Table, too!)

What else did we Order?

Mrs Nom ordered the Border Wedge. Mrs. Nom has a bit of an obsession with Wedge salads and will ALWAYS order one if a restaurant offers one. This one was an interesting take on the classic wedge salad, with three wedges made from Boston lettuce hearts. Topping the wedges were tomatoes, English cucumber, fire-roasted poblano pepper rajas, blue cheese, cilantro, and all tortilla strips, all topped with buttermilk-bacon ranch.

The tortilla strips gave a great crunch to the fresh crunch of the lettuce, the spices were a great added addition, and played well with the coolness of the blue cheese and cucumbers.

The large selection of craft beers and cocktails will fit just about any taste.  Blatt Beer and Table at the Shops of Legacy is a great addition to the dining scene in west Omaha and sure to be a repeat of the success of the original.
