After a long busy week, we decided to treat our boys to dinner out with the grandparents at Pie Five Pizza, a newly opened pizza restaurant in Aksarben Village. Pie Five Pizza is a fast casual chain that is rapidly expanding across the country, offering personal sized pizzas covered in fresh ingredients and a house made sauce and ready in five minutes. Located in a new strip mall in Aksarben Village, Pie Five features a large open kitchen with a service counter that you customize the specialty pizzas or build your own. The concept seemed similar to Subway or Chipotle, allowing you to make your pizza fit your personal preferences suing high quality fresh ingredients and specialty.
All the adults ordered from the specialty pizzas on the menu, while we added an additional build your own pizza for the kids. We ordered the BBQ Chicken, the Pesto Chicken Alfredo, the High Five and the Chicken Carbonara. Each specialty pie comes with a recommended crust type, although Pie Five has four different types of crust, Artisan Thin Crust, Classic Pan, Whole Grain Thin Crust and a Gluten Free choice that you can choose instead should you like those options. We tried the Artisan Thin and the Classic Pan crusts and both were very good.
The pizzas came out quickly, the cheese pipping hot and the crusts golden brown. The pizzas are around 10 inches around, a nice size for a personal pizza. Pie Five also offers their special “Magic Dust” a custom mix of Italian seasonings, Parmesan and Romano cheese that adds a nice splash of flavor. Overall the pizzas were very good, but most of us wished we could have gotten a bit more cheese and toppings. The build your own pizza had a bit more toppings than the specialties, and the kids both said that they liked their pizza.
One of the pizzas came as a bundle offer, which adds a side salad and a dessert. Grandma Nom chose the Caesar which came in a baked pizza crust bowl which is a pretty cool concept. The salad was good, the greens fresh, but the dressing seemed a bit bland and under seasoned.
Pie Five offers three different desserts, a Chocolate Chip cookie, a Turtle Brownie and an Ultimate Brownie. Of course Grandma had to spoil the grandkids, so she bought each of the boys a dessert, and since we were there to try it out, we got one of each. The desserts are baked in the same pans as the pizza, and each is served as an individual slice. The kids really approved of the desserts (all the adults did too!) and suggest saving room for the dessert.
Pie Five Pizza was overall good and would be perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. We also think it would be good for those of us with kids, as there wasn’t much of a wait, and you can customize the pizzas to cater to picky eaters. Both of our boys told us that we should go again, and considering the clean plates that both boys had at the end of the meals, we probably will.
