Last Updated on October 10, 2023 by Leah Hall

One of our favorites spicy cocktails, this hot sauce cocktail can pack a punch!

With winter setting in on us, we can look forward to some great deals on fresh citrus that help brighten the cold nights ahead. With a bunch of fresh limes teasing us on the counter and a frosty night on the agenda, we needed a cocktail! We wanted to make a drink that would help us warm up the night a bit. Our friends are fans of spicy food so we wanted to find a drink that would bring a little heat to the party, so we came up with the Hittin’ the Sauce.

Hot Sauce Cocktail

This summer we found a great local company, Crazy Gringa Hot Sauce, and they make some fantastic hot sauces that have found their way into our cuisine in all kinds of different ways. We are passionate about using local vendors, especially when they are great folks like Mary Current. Crazy Gringa makes their standard sauces which are fantastic, but we really get excited about their special small batch hot sauces.

The small batch sauces are limited run sauces made from peppers raised in local gardens. They are made into special sauces that might be seasonal like the Peach Datil Pepper sauce, (used in an awesome Peach Margarita) or a nice Raspberry Cayenne sauce (we used to make an awesome pizza!)

When Mary showed us her next small batch creation, a Fresno Pepper Hot Sauce that was bold and spicy and almost as loud as its bright red color, We had to add to our collection of Crazy Gringa sauces, especially when we found out it was similar that famous sauce with the rooster on the bottle!

The sauce has a nice tangy base with a bright heat that hits you right at the back of the throat. A hint of garlic and a balanced bit of sweetness rounds the Fresno Pepper sauce into our go to for a clean tangy heat.

What Ingredients are Needed for the Hittin the Sauce Cocktail?

  • Lime Juice
  • Vodka
  • Hot Sauce
  • Blackberries
  • Simple Syrup
  • Ginger Liqueur

Fresh squeezed lime juice and the bright tangy heat of the Fresno Pepper hot sauce was a great combination. It really came to life when we added the sweetness of blackberries and simple syrup. Mixing in ginger liqueur and a smooth vodka gave the drink the perfect amount of warmth to make this a smooth sipping and great spicy cocktails.

Cheers!

I always like seeing all your beverage posts! My Hubby would love the spice in this one. I might need to put it in a different glass so he feels "manly"
