When people think of Vegas, they think of the bustling loud casinos and clubs, but occasionally you find quiet corners where you can sit back and relax and enjoy a quiet drink.  One of those corners is Bar Vdara, located in the lobby of Vdara Hotel and Spa across from the Market Cafe.  Vdara is an all suite non gaming resort located in the City Center complex behind Aria, and offers a slight respite from the busy strip.  Bar Vdara features a large airy bar area and a fun shaded outdoor seating area featuring large swings and a fun reflecting pool.  The space is inviting and not your typical dark hotel bar stuck off in the corner. We had a comp for a free cocktail, so we stopped in in the late afternoon for a quick drink. Being a cocktail aficionado, Bar Vdara held an interest for me as the cocktail menu was well put together and the cocktails on their social media accounts had looked really good. The menu featured a number of specialty cocktails and a section of classics with a twist.

Mrs. Nom chose a drink from the specialty section, choosing the Black Dragon.  The Black Dragon features Black Dragon Berry Rum, fresh squeezed lime juice, muddled blackberries and mint leaves and sweetened with a pure cane syrup.  The Black Dragon has a bright refreshing burst of berry with a hint of mint.  The cane syrup gives a rich sweetness that complimented the rum and the tang of the blackberry.  The fresh muddled blackberries gave the drink a beautiful burgundy color.

I chose to venture into the classic side, choosing the Sunset in Moscow, a spin off of the classic Moscow Mule.  Served in a frosted copper mug, the Sunset in Moscow took the classic Moscow Mule and amped up the flavors by swapping out the plain vodka for Belevedere Pink Grapefruit Vodka and adding fresh muddled strawberry.  Served over finely crushed ice, the fresh ginger beer gave a nice sparkling tang and slightly spicy bite to the strawberry and citrus that helped beat the heat from walking the Vegas strip.

While we didn’t order any food, Bar Vdara does offer a number of small plates, from small salads to gastro-pub style food like caramelized pork belly and lobster rolls.  We did get a set of house made bar snacks that included wasabi peas, crisp sweet and salty crackers and a pretzel mix.  Service was quick and friendly.
